A busy weekend for Broadland.
A sunny but cold and crisp morning (-2 degrees!) started a day of taking part in the Norwich Head Race on 24th February. A mixed double and men’s quad were first to brave the conditions, the wind had soon picked up! We also had members volunteering to help marshal the race and get the kettle on once everyone had finished.
The men’s quad won their category and the mixed double put in a brilliant performance. Unfortunately there were crews unable to race in the afternoon division due to sickness but a new men’s 4+ stuck it out with a last minute change of crew and gave as good as they got, led by a fantastic cox! A heavy handicap was not in their favour but their time was a resounding success for all the effort they put into a difficult race.
On Sunday 25th a few members volunteered for an intensive 2 hour litter pick, alongside Norwich Rowing Club. Despite the continued chilly conditions, the launch boat was FILLED with rubbish and some unexpected items; a gas heater, car bumper and very old super soaker!!
